In October of 2013, the Huntingburg City Council adopted a Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Economic Development Strategy.

A comprehensive plan is an official public document adopted by a local government to serve as a policy guide for decisions about the development of the community.  As a policy guide, it must recognize the interdependence of land use decisions, resource management, the process of governing, and the physical infrastructure of the built environment.

This amended plan was an update to the Comprehensive Plan prepared for the City of Huntingburg by the Bonar Group in 2007.  The intent of the amendment was not to replace that plan, but to augment it with up-to-date data, revisit the key recommendations, receive input from a new elected administration and place more emphasis on the implementation process supporting economic development.

The updated plan is available here for your review and comment.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places (located at US 231 and 4th Street), this historic business district, once destroyed by a fire in 1889, has been lovingly restored to a charming Victorian downtown, housing more than two dozen locally owned antique and specialty shops and unique eateries.

The walking tour takes you back to the 1800s and early 1900s, a time when most of the two-story Italianate and late Victorian commercial buildings along historic 4th Street were constructed.  The brick-paved sidewalks and 1800s facade provide a quaint setting for many special events throughout the year.

Hours vary by business and building, so be sure to check out individual locations while you take the walking tour to find out more information.
The Huntingburg Event and Convention Center is a community center that can seat over 1,000 people.  It has the capability to be divided into five separate rooms to accommodate between 50 to 500 people.  Two catering kitchens, storage for the 1,200 chairs and 300 tables in varying sizes and shapes, along with a loading dock and ramp make the 24,000 square foot facility capable of providing for current needs of our residents and corporations.

The Huntingburg Revolving Loan Fund (HRLF) was established to provide financial assistance for local small business development. The purpose of the HRLF is to provide low-interest loans to fill the "financial gap" that usually occurs when a small business is established and does not meet the traditional lending requirements. The HRLF committee oversees the loan program, which is managed by the City of Huntingburg.

Huntingburg Revolving Loan Fund Committee:

- Michael Olinger, Freedom Bank
- John Mundy, German American Bank
- Ken Schnaus, Springs Valley Bank & Trust
- Nick Stevens, Old National Bank

For more information about the Huntingburg Revolving Loan Fund, please contact Kenlee Gehlhausen, Director of Community Development, at kgehlhausen@huntingburg-in.gov or by phone at (812) 683-2211.

This 1887 Italianate structure, which can be found at 309 N. Geiger Street, features authentic Victorian lighting, elongated windows, 14-inch brick walls, and the original tin ceiling.  Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this building once served as a fire station and jail, and later as the focal point for Huntingburg's social, cultural, and political events through the 1930's.  After several decades, the building was renovated and, in full use today, now stands as a symbol of community pride.

The Veterans' Memorial, located on 310 E. 14th Street, was dedicated on December 17, 2011.  It contains 5,400 brick pavers, which are engraved with the names of Veterans both deceased and living.

The monument features the five branches of service, as well as the U.S. and POW-MIA flags. It is the hope of The City of Huntingburg and countless volunteers...

  • That the monument may offer peace and comfort to the service men and women of Dubois County.
  • Serve as a place of respect and reflection for the families of our soldiers and POWS.
  • Most importantly, serve as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedoms.

The back of the monument features a quote from
President Franklin D. Roosevelt:

"In honor of those who served our country, during times of peace and war, those who gave the supreme sacrifice, those still missing and those who came home both whole and broken."

Honor a soldier in your life!

Purchase an engraved brick at the "NEW" Dubois County Veterans Monument in Huntingburg! Call 812-683-2211 (Huntingburg City Hall) for more details.

5-5-5

The City of Huntingburg hosts “5-5-5,” a series of monthly 5K fun walk/runs intended to give people a chance to exercise in an enjoyable group setting. “5-5-5,” a program created by Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner, takes place on the second Friday of the month from April through August at 5:00 p.m.

“I’ve been thrilled with the community response for “5-5-5” the past few years,” says Mayor Spinner. “The number of participants continues to grow, which proves this is a valuable program for all those involved.”

Children and adults of every fitness level are encouraged to participate in “5-5-5.”  Participants should meet at Huntingburg City Hall, located at 508 E. 4th Street, prior to the 5:00 p.m. start time. There will be no timers during each 5K as it is meant to be a social opportunity that incorporates physical activity.

Participants must sign in at the registration table prior to each event, but are only required to sign a waiver before to their first event. Waivers are available at www.huntingburg-in.gov. Water and healthy snacks will be provided at the end of each 5K.  Those who participate in all 5 events will receive a free t-shirt.

Corporate partners for “5-5-5” include OFS Brands, Farbest Foods, Hometown IGA, and the Tri-County YMCA.
